Avatar Opening Day: $27 Million

James Cameron’s sci-fi 3D epic Avatar opened with an estimated $27 million in first-day receipts, including approximately $3.5 million from midnight showings.  The film played in about 7,000 screens at 3,452 sites (including 2,038 3D sites / 179 IMAX locations).  3D screenings accounted for 58% of the total gross.

White Collar Renewed for Second Season

Jeff Eastin, creator and executive producer of the USA network program White Collar, announced on his Twitter feed that the show has been picked up for a second season:

“White Collar season 2 pickup is official! Congratulations to the best cast and crew on television.”

Fox Boosting Fringe With House Lead-In + Other Schedule Changes

Fox is making a couple changes to its 2010 schedule.  First and foremost, on January 11, 2010 the network will air an original episode of Fringe following a new House.  The network is no doubt hoping to boost the ratings of the show, which has been struggling this season in its new Thursday time slot.

Toy Story 3 Will Be Released in IMAX 3D + New Clip This Sunday

IMAX Corporation and Walt Disney Pictures have announced that Toy Story 3 will be released in IMAX 3D theaters simultaneously with its conventional theater release on June 18, 2010:

ABC To Burn Off Remaining Scrubs and Better Off Ted Episodes in January

Beginning January 5th, ABC will burn off the remaining episodes of comedies Scrubs and Better Off Ted by running back-to-back episodes. Scrubs will air at 8:00 and 9:00 p.m. with Better Off Ted airing at 8:30 and 9:30 p.m.

Disney Confirms Captain EO Return

Disney has confirmed that Captain EO, the 1986 17-minute 3D musical starring Michael Jackson, will return to Disneyland park beginning in 2010.
