Earlier in the day IESB reported a rumor that production on Spider-Man 4 was on indefinite hold over troubles involving the script, specifically the main villain (director Sam Raimi reportedly wants Vulture, while the studio heads want to use a more well-known villain).
However, Sony Pictures has commented on the story, and are denying any troubles. They did, however, confirm the film is on hold but say that the film is simply on a planned holiday hiatus:
Sony has contacted us this morning and they are denying the story. The production is on their expected holiday hiatus, but will ramp up again early next year. Yes, the filmmakers are working on the script, but there is nothing unusual about that at all, productions always are working and tweaking scripts right up until principal photography begins and that is still a few months away.
Spider-Man 4, which goes by the title SPIDER-M4N, internally, is scheduled to hit theaters on May 6, 2011.
