According to studio estimates, Summit Entertainment’s The Twilight Saga: New Moon grossed $140.7 million for the weekend, far exceeding initial Hollywood estimates of around $100 million and placing the film in the top three all-time for opening weekends:

The weekend breakdown for New Moon goes as follows:
- Friday: $72.7 million (includes $26.27 million from midnight screenings)
- Saturday: $43.2 million
- Sunday: $24.8 million (projected)
In all, ‘New Moon’ has broken three records this weekend: Best Midnight Opening, Best Single Day Opening and Best Friday Opening. The film has done strong business overseas as well, grossing an estimated $118.1 million foreign for a worldwide cume of $258.8 million.
