J.J. Abrams is close to inking a deal to return to the directing chair on a television series. The Star Trek director is in talks to direct Undercovers, his Warner Bros. pilot for NBC described as a mix between Mr. & mrs. Smith and The Bourne Identity. He is also attached to executive produce the project.
Should his schedule remain open, Undercovers would be Abrams’ first TV pilot that he has directed since 2004’s Lost. Since that time he has guest directed an episode of Jimmy Kimmell Live (2006) on ABC and directed an episode of the NBC comedy The Office (2007).
