Fox News Is Tops in Cable News for Election Coverage

foxnewslogo-110509While the beltway folks may argue who was the winner Tuesday — whether it was the Democrats who went +2 on the night  (winning NY-23 and CA-10) or the Republicans (also +2 with NJ Gov and VA Gov) — when it comes to cable news ratings, the winner couldn’t have been more clear: Fox News.

The opinion-orientated news channel drew an average of 4.04 million viewers in primetime (1.13 million within the key A25-54 news demo). Fox News finished well ahead of #2 MSNBC (974,000/308,000), #3 HLN–who didn’t cover the election–(842,000/341,000) and #4 CNN (826,000/227,000) for the evening.

It’s safe to say CNN’s humongous fall from the top, especially during an election cycle — after all, they do claim themselves to be #1 when news breaks — is just as big a story as Fox’s continued strength.
