Shane Black Writing Doc Savage; Neil Moritz and Ori Marmur Producing + Updates on TMNT and Ghost in the Shell Movies

Sony Pictures has hired Shane Black to write, and possibly direct, the upcoming adaptation of Doc Savage.  The producing team will be Neil Moritz and Ori Marmur, although an original report by AICN (later corrected in a follow-up post) incorrectly identified Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci as the producing team.

Never-the-less, about the only detail we know about the project is that — to the delight of many I’m sure — the character will remain in the 30’s and not be modernized.

There’s a new update for the  Ghost in the Shell movie (originally announced way back in 2007).  According to Variety, DreamWorks has hired Laeta Kalogridis to write their 3D live-action adaptation of the manga.  Meanwhile Nickelodeon has acquired the film rights to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (for $60 million) and are developing both a CG-animated TV series and a film (by sister company Paramount Pictures) for release in 2012.
