On Wednesday, CBS announced full season pickups for NCIS: Los Angeles and The Good Wife. On Thursday, ABC followed suit, announcing full season pickups for Modern Family, Cougar Town and The Middle. The three shows comprise 3/4th of the network’s 8-10:00 p.m. Wednesday comedy block and have performed well in the ratings (more-so Cougar Town and Modern Family which are still A18-49 hits despite dips in their second and third weeks).
Modern Family is averaging a 6.4/11 HH rating/share, 10.47 million viewers and a 3.8/10 A18-49 rating/share, while Cougar Town is drawing a similar 5.9/9 HH rating/share, 9.46 million viewers and a 3.8/10 A18-49 rating/share through three weeks.
I’m not too surprised with the early full season pickups for those two shows, but I am a bit for The Middle which has only aired for two weeks. The show has averaged a 4.9/8 HH rating/share, 7.75 million viewers and a 2.4/7 A18-49 rating/share. I suppose ABC is happy that it has shown growth among adults 18-49 from its lead-in Hank (4.8/8 HH rating/share, 7.39 million viewers, 1.9/6 A18-49 rating/share) which did not receive a full season pickup.
There also wasn’t any news to report for the other new Wednesday night program Eastwick (4.5/8 HH rating/share, 6.74 million viewers and a 2.4/7 A18-49 rating/share).
