Halloween 3-D Coming in Summer 2010

halloweenii-083109Their movie may not have finished in first place this weekend, but The Weinstein Company have already announced that they are moving forward with a new film in the Halloween franchise, and this one will be in 3-D:

The independent studio’s co-Chairman Bob Weinstein said today that the 3-D sequel, titled, appropriately enough, “Halloween 3D,” is in development.

Halloween II took third place this weekend with a weaker than expected $16.3 million gross (its 2007 predecessor did $26.4 million) and was beat out by Final Destination 3-D ($27.4 million) and week two of Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds ($19.3 million/$73.0 million domestic cume).

No doubt TWC was well aware of the fact that although it played in just 1,678 3-D theaters of its total 3,121 sites, Final Destination 3-D took in a whopping 70% of its receipts from the 3-D screens (and the film out-grossed the opening weekend of its predecessor–2003’s Final Destination 3 — by nearly 43%: $19.2M vs. $27.4M).
