With Disney just recently announcing the acquisition of Marvel Entertainment in a $4 billion deal, 20th Century Fox shot back with their announcement that they are looking to reboot one of their major Marvel franchises; Fantastic Four. The studio announced today that they have hired Akiva Goldsman to reboot the property as a producer. Michael Green, co-executive producer of NBC’s Kings and co-writer of Green Lantern will write the script for the new film.
It’s unclear if any of the original cast and crew from the 2005 and 2007 installments will return for the reboot.
Unlike other Marvel properties, Fox actually controls Fantastic Four forever, so long as they continue to make films. It’s the same arrangement they have with Marvel Comics properties X-Men, Daredevil and Silver Surfer.
