A third film in the Bad Boys franchise is in development at Columbia Pictures. The studio has tapped Peter Craig to pen the screenplay. THR reports that the studio hopes to have a script that would reunite the principal team: director Michael Bay, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. In the early stages, no deal is in place for any of those players to return.
The first Bad Boys was released in 1995 and grossed a respectable $65.8 million/$141.4 million worldwide. Bay, Bruckheimer, Smith and Lawrence returned for the 2003 sequel which grossed a more impressive $138.6 million/273.3 million worldwide.
