Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) is in talks with Universal Pictures to direct Bioshock, the studio’s upcoming adaptation of the Take-Two video game. Gore Verbinski, who was originally set to direct the film but pulled out over budget concerns brough up by Universal (who want to shoot overseas to take advantage of tax benefits–Verbinski couldn’t commit to shooting overseas because of other commitments), will remain on as a producer.
Here’s more from Variety:
Once it was clear Verbinski wouldn’t direct, he and the studio sparked to Fresnadillo, whose deal is contingent upon the thumbs-up from Take-Two, which maintains director approval. Fresnadillo’s producing partner, Enrique Lopez Lavigne, is in talks to become a producer.
