Entertainment Weekly has confirmed HitFix’s scoop that Universal Pictures has hired Bryan Singer to produce and direct a big-screen version of Battlestar Galactica. Glen Larson, who created the 1978 original series, is also on board as a producer. The project will not be an extension of the recently canceled/ended Syfy series, but instead will be a complete re-imagining, EW reports.
Singer was previously attached to the property several years ago through a pilot reboot that he had in development with Sci Fi (now Syfy). Although they ultimately went through with a reboot with Ronald D. Moore’s 2003-2009 series, the network put a stop to Singer’s reboot version over sensitivity to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
