Broadcast TV Ratings for Wednesday, August 5, 2009

Although it was down by 10% from last week’s numbers among adults 18-49, a two-hour edition of So You Think You Can Dance on Fox last night held off the competition and garnered Fox a first place sweep across all three main categories: Households, Viewers and Adults 18-49.

Second place was shared between CBS (#2 among households), NBC (#2 among viewers) and ABC (#2 among adults 18-49).  ABC’s showing was thanks mostly to returning alternative series Wipeout which grew by double-digits among households and viewers, and 8% among adults 18-49 over its last original episode two weeks ago.

America’s Got Talent kept NBC competitive among viewers, but an 8:00pm repeat of TV’s 50 Funniest Phrases and an original episode of The Philanthropist dragged down the network among adults 18-49 (where it fell to fourth place).

Full ratings and breakdown’s, including week-to-week comparisons, etc., follows after the jump.

GO TO WEEKLY RATINGS PAGE

Notes: Network average numbers from the week prior are based on fast affiliate data. Comparison’s from the week prior (or episode-to-episode, etc.) on specific shows are based on final national data. Ratings for the current day are based on fast affiliate numbers. (Expect all three scenarios to be the case at all times, unless otherwise noted). The final rating for first-run episodes that aired this evening will be reported the following week. So for example, the final rating for tonight’s episode of “America’s Got Talent” will be reported in next weeks report for Wednesday, August 12, 2009. Also keep in mind that because these are fast affiliate numbers, when the finals are released there may be noticeable changes.

And lastly, there may be some errors in the data due to rounding/human error. I’ll do my best to limit those mistakes and correct them in time for the next week’s report.
