Torchwood: Children Of Earth Has Record Debut on BBC America + Set Photos of new Doctor and Companion

torchwoodchildrenofearth-072309The first episode of the five-part miniseries Torchwood: Children of Earth on BBC America, drew the largest audience in the network’s history on Monday night.  The episode drew 1.4 million viewers according to live + same-day data released by Nielsen Media Research.

The miniseries runs throughout the week on BBC America, ending with the fifth episode on Friday night.  The miniseries debuted in the U.K. July 6-10 on BBC where it broke series records with an average five-day audience of 5.89 million viewers. That may make the 1.4 million number on BBC America look weak, but it’s important to note that BBC America is a tiny network here in the states and other factors, such as the show being an import, are at play.  At the end of the day 1.4 million is a very strong number for BBC America.

Oh and in related news, some set photos have emerged of the new Doctor (Matt Smith) and companion (Karen Gillan) for the upcoming fifth season of Doctor Who.  Check out an official set photo after the jump.
