The memorial service held in honor of Michael Jackson drew 31.14 million viewers on U.S. television (not including any online viewing). The event ran live from 1pm to 4pm ET on 19 networks: ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, Telefutura, Telemundo, Univision, CNN, Fox News Channel, MSNBC, Headline News, BET, E!, MTV, VH1, VH1 Classic, TV Guide Network, and TV ONE.
14.28 million of the viewers watched via the three main networks ABC (5.31M), NBC (5.12M) and CBS (3.89M), while 9.3 million watched on the four main cable news networks CNN (5.30M), Fox News (2.23M), MSNBC (1.39M) and HLN (377,000). The remaining 7.56 million came from the other 12 networks.
In terms of historical comparisons, it was behind the 35.07M who watched President Reagan’s burial in 2004 and the 33.25M who watched the funeral of Princess Diana in 1997.
