Universal Pictures has won out in a four-studio bidding war for the film rights to the classic video game Asteroids. The studio has set Matthew Lopez to write the script for the game-to-film adaptation and Lorenzo di Bonaventura will produce.
Asteroids was first released as an Arcade game in 1979, before hitting the home video game market in 1981 via the Atari 2600 home console.
