Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen continues to out-perform expectations with an estimated $36.7M on Friday, a new record for a non-opening Friday. The prior record-holder was 2005’s Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith ($33.5M).
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen now stands at an estimated $125.95M through just three days of release with its five-day estimate revised upward once again allowing for the strong possibility that it could surpass the five-day record currently held by The Dark Knight ($203.8M).
It’s an amazing turn of events considering what was originally expected out of the film (initial tracking had the film doing around $90M for the Fri-Sat-Sun frame — now $115M looks likely — and about $150-170M for the full five days–now $190-205M looks to be within reach).
With the stronger than expected opening day numbers on Wednesday, the film’s five-day haul was revised upward in the neighborhood of around $185M, and now it’s being upped once again with better than expected second and third day numbers (to the possible record-breaking $204M range).
No new numbers from foreign markets have come in, but with Friday’s numbers, the film is now sitting at $206.1M worldwide.
