Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen followed up its Wednesday record $60.6 million opening with a strong $28.6 million on Thursday, a figure above what Paramount Pictures was expecting, pushing the film’s domestic cume to an impressive $89.2M through two days.
The first Transformers pulled in slightly more on its respective day ($29.1M), but that came on the heels of a weaker opening day and it had significantly less money in the bank at the end of day two versus ‘Transformers 2′ ($65.7M vs. $89.2M). IMAX theaters — where the film opened in a record 169 sites — generated $6.3M of sales, or approximately 7% of its domestic gross.
With the better than expected second-day haul, ‘Transformers 2′ is now expected to gross somewhere in the neighborhood of $185M over its first five days.
Internationally, the film’s tally has been equally strong, now sitting at $80.2M from 43 territories and pushing the film’s worldwide cume to $169.4M.
