Paramount Pictures’ Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen took in an impressive $60.63 million from 4,234 theaters, shattering the prior Wednesday record held by 2007’s Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix ($44.2M).
The number includes $16M from midnight showings (also a Wednesday record) and is the second largest single day as well as opening day, in box office history. The Dark Knight still holds the top spot at $67.2M, while Spider-Man 3 has fallen to the third spot with $59.8M. When all is said and done, the film will likely gross somewhere in the neighborhood of $150-170M through its five-day Wed-Sun frame.
Internationally, the film has taken in an equally impressive $59.5M, putting its worldwide cume at $120.1M.
