Monday’s episode of Jon & Kate Plus 8 set yet more records for TLC, drawing 10.6 million viewers, surpassing the previous record for the show (9.8 million for the season premiere a few weeks ago) and marking a new high for a reality show on cable television.
In addition to the total viewer record, it notched new highs for the network among adults 18-49 (6.5 million), adults 18-34 (3.7 million) and both male and female demographics.
Despite the highs, TLC also took the opportunity to announce that the show will be going on hiatus until August 3rd to let the family regroup amid the divorce controversy. Kate filed for divorce papers from Jon on Monday. The couple had been married for 10 years.
Just 10 of the 40 episodes ordered by TLC for the fifth season have aired thus far.
