One episode was all Showtime needed to see to give the new Edie Falco starring medical drama Nurse Jackie a renewal. Showtime handed out the second season order after the Monday night debut became the networks most-watched series premiere.

AMC has announced that the third season of the Emmy Award-winning drama Mad Men will debut August 16th with limited commercial interruption. The network also announced that they’re making the first season available on-demand in both standard and high definition.

David Letterman’s Late Show with David Letterman snagged his first nightly win over Conan O’Brien’s The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien last night, drawing a 3.4/8 HH rating/share on CBS to Conan’s 2.9/7 on NBC. Conan even fell behind ABC’s late-night news magazine Nightline, which drew a 3.1/9 HH rating/share.

The latest issue of TV Guide reports that director J.J. Abrams is reuniting with Tom Cruise to serve as a producer on Mission: Impossible IV. Abrams directed Mission: Impossible III in 2006. It was his directorial debut (for film).
