Movie and TV Bites: Mad Men Season Three Trailer, Barbarella Still Alive, Mickey Rourke on Iron Man 2 + more

  • The first photos from the set of Kevin Smith’s next R-rated comedy A Couple of Dicks have been released.  I’ve included two above, one from ComingSoon.net and another from accidentalsexiness.  Head on over to the latter for more set pics.  A Couple of Dicks hits theaters on February 26, 2010.
  • Check out AMC’s Mad Men season three trailer.  The third season of the award-winning drama premieres on AMC this August.

  • Budgetary issues, which have forced Universal to shutdown production on Bioshock and may result in the film having to shoot outside the United States, may mean Gore Verbinski will not be able to direct. [The Los Angeles Times]
  • With Robert Rodriguez dropping out of directing Barbarella, it now looks like Robert Luketic (Legally Blonde, 21) is in talks with Dino De Laurentiis’ company (which owns the rights to the original property) to develop the film with a different studio. [Entertainment Weekly]
  • HBO has premiered the trailer for the upcoming Thomas Jane starrer Hung.

  • Universal Pictures has set an April 15, 2011 release date for the studio’s adaptation of Hasbro’s Stretch Armstrong.  The film is produced by Academy Award-winning producer Brian Grazer. [/Film]

  • Advance tickets for Michael Bay’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (June 24, 2009) are now available for purchase.  You can buy pre-order tickets at MovieTickets.com, moviefone and Fandango. [Paramount Pictures]
  • Mickey Rourke reveals that his Iron Man 2 character Ivan/Whiplash will speak some Russian in the film. [The Guardian]
  • Here’s a brand new photo from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince featuring Harry, Ron and Hermione in the boys’ dormitory. [SnitchSeeker]


  • Spider-Man 4 producer Todd Black says that Kirstin Dunst is definitely on board the project.  Black also revealed that the villain in the film will not be the vampire Morbius, hinting instead that the villain will have ties to New York City. [New York Post]
  • American Idol season nine auditions will begin on Sunday, June 14th at Gillettte Stadium in Boston, MA.  The auditions continue in Atlanta on Thursday, June 18th, Los Angeles on Tuesday, June 30th, Orlando on Thursday, July 9th and Denver on Tuesday, July 14th.  Auditions will also be held in Chicago and Dallas but those dates are TBA.   • Here’s your first look at the upcoming graphic novel adaptation of Trick ‘r Treat.  The graphic novel releases on October 7th and the DVD/Blu-ray releases on Halloween.  Head to /Film for the full shot and comic slides.


  • The Jay Leno Show will premiere on NBC on Monday, September 14th. [NBC]
  • New Line Cinema has released the first trailer for The Final Destination.  Watch it below.  The Final Destination hits 3-D and conventional theaters on August 28, 2009.

  • Ain’t It Cool News have posted promotional images from the Licensing Fair featuring Shrek Forever After, Oobermind, Iron Man 2 and Spider-Man 4.  Click the image below to see them in higher resolution.
  • Slumdog Millionaire writer Simon Beaufoy has been hired to write the screenplay to Suketu Mehta’s 2004 novel Maxium City: Bombay Lost and Found, the film rights to which were recently purchased by Danny Boyle. [The Telegraph]
  • Paramount Pictures has released six new photos from Stephen Sommers’ G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.  I’ve included two below.  Head on over to /Film to see the other four.

  • Disney held a preview session for buyers at the 2009 Licensing International Expo and although they were sworn to secrecy there are reports that Pete Doctor will be following up Pixar’s Up with a sequel to Monsters Inc.  It’s possible the film could come out in 2013. [Worst Previews]
  • The Shrek spinoff Puss in Boots will be an origin story and will feature all new characters, except for Puss of course, explains writer David H.Steinberg. [MovieHole]
  • Warner Bros. has released a new TV spot for Terminator Salvation. Now normally I wouldn’t be posting such a thing considering the film is already into its third week of release, however, this one is noteworthy because it showcases Arnold Schwarzenegger’s CG cameo.  Watch it below.
  • Wes Craven, director of the Scream trilogy, says that he will read the script of the proposed new trilogy and make a decision at that time (the script is expected to be completed in August) on whether or not to direct.  He also revealed that Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette are the only original trilogy stars expected to return.   • DreamWorks has picked up The Defenders, a family adventure project from Masi Oka (Heroes).  It’ll be produced by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci and D.J. Caruso is in negotiations to direct, with Gary Whitta on board to write the script. [THR]
  • ComingSoon.net has released the first trailer for Denys Arcand’s dark comedy Days of Darkness.  The film premieres as part of the IFC Festival Direct on June 14th.
