Film and TV Bites: Princess and the Frog Trailer, Vin Diesel To Star in The Wheelman, Footage from Prince of Persia, Ninja Assassins, Surrogates + more


I missed a lot of news over the last few days and instead of going back and writing individual articles for each and every one, I’ve decided to assemble them all together in bullet-point form in this one article, just in case there’s something here you missed.  So here we go:

  • The Weinstein Co. has released another character poster for Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds.  Click the photo above for a closer look. (higher resolution version can be found at /Film).
  • Fox has decided against bringing back Talk Show With Spike Feresten.  The renewal would have put the Saturday late-night show on the air for a fourth season. [Broadcasting & Cable]
  • Meanwhile creators of another canceled Fox late-night show, MadTV, are said to be looking for an alternate home for the sketch comedy show. [NY Daily News]
  • Fox will be airing Virtuality, Ronald D. Moore and Michael Taylor’s two-hour sci-fi drama, on Saturday, July 4th at 8:00pm. [The Futon Critic]
  • Disney has released the first full trailer for their upcoming hand-drawn animated feature The Princess and the Frog.  Watch it embedded below, or head on over to to see in it high definition.

  • Adult Swim has ordered a new series from Robot Chicken creators Tom Root and Matthew Senreich.  Called Titan Maximum, the show is about a group of dysfunctional misfits trying to defend the solar system.  It’ll air in September. [Variety]
  • VH1 has renewed its hit reality series Tough Love for a second season.  The first season averaged a solid 1.9 million viewers and a 1.3 A18-49 rating per episode.  New episodes are expected to begin airing in the fourth quarter of this year. [Variety]
  • Universal Studios has released a new viral video for Sascha Baron Cohen’s next comedy Bruno.  Watch it below.

  • Dark Castle, a division of Warner Bros., has set Todd Lincoln to write and direct the haunted house horror film The Apparition.[Variety]
  • have an exclusive new trailer for Blood: The Last Vampire.  Watch it below.

  • Samuel L. Jackson’s Uppity Films has joined with Andras Hamori’s H20 Motion Pictures to secure the life rights of Andrew Mwangura, a negotiator between pirates and the owners of vessels hijacked off the coast of Africa, for a planned film.  [Variety]
  • Paramount Pictures has set Vin Diesel to star in the studio’s live-action adaptation of the Ubisoft video game , The Wheelman.  John Singleton will direct and Lonrenzo di Bonaventura will produce. [Variety]
  • The first footage from Mike Newell’s big-screen adaptation of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time aired on ABC and is now available to view online.  Watch it below.

  • The following video features some behind-the-scenes footage of Ninja Assassin cut with an interview from John Gaeta, the film’s FX supervisor. [via Boing Boing]

  • Director James McTeigue is reportedly in talks to replace Brett Ratner on Lionsgate’s Conan. [CHUD]
  • Director James Cameron talks Avatar and actor Sam Worthington in this new interview.

  • Activision is looking into turning the hit video game Guitar Hero into a reality series and/or a real-life concert tour.  The video game company is also under way with discussions on turning the World of Warcraft and Call of Duty video games into movies. [THR]
  • The first TV spot for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is now online.  Watch it below.

  • Disney has released an extended preview of Jonathan Mostowof’s adaption of the sci-fi comic Surrogates.  The film stars Bruce Willis.  Watch it below.

  • And finally, a special two-hour prime-time Saturday Night Live special focused on SNL films will be broadcast on NBC May 17th at 9:00pm. The special will be hosted by Andy Samberg. [AP via Yahoo! News]
