As part of its upfront announcements to advertisers yesterday, MTV said that they will be continuing the docusoap without 23-year-old star Lauren Conrad. Instead, the network will build a new storyline around newlyweds Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag.
“MTV viewers will find out life in Los Angeles only gets more complicated as friendships, relationships and loyalties are tested like never before as ‘The Hills’ returns this fall with more episodes of Season 5,” MTV said.
Note that the network says they’ve ordered “more episodes of season 5″, therefore they’re not ordering another season. They’ll make a decision on the extent of the additional episodes based on the content of the resulting footage filmed after the finale.
MTV also unveiled their 2009/2010 television roster, with the announcement of nine new shows (including the proposed Lauren Conrad-free version of The Hills): Stylist, Gone Too Far, DJ and the Fro, Popzilla, The Buried Life, The Alexa Chung Show, Ultimate Parkour Challenge and Pranked.
In addition to the new shows, the network announced new seasons of America’s Best Dance Crew, Run’s House and Nitro Circus in addition to The Hills.
