In a sign that the network is unhappy with its Thursday night performance, CBS has moved Harper’s Island to Saturday night. Saturday night, once a very popular destination, now serves as the go-to night to burn off remaining episodes of a canceled, or soon-to-be/likely canceled series.
More recently, NBC banished Kings to Saturday nights after poor ratings in its Sunday night time slot, and ABC will burn off the remaining episodes of Eli Stone, Pushing Daisies and Dirty Sexy Money this summer on Saturdays.
Regardless, CBS says they decided against an outright cancellation thanks to the show’s live + seven day Nielsen ratings, as well as good DVR interest in the show’s premiere. The show also does well in online streaming audience.
In terms of live + same day ratings, Harper’s Island premiered on April 9th with 10.21 million viewers and a 2.6 A18-49 rating — ok numbers, despite poor retention from its lead-in — but the show fell to 7.82M viewers and a 2.2 A18-49 rating for episode two and just 7.02M viewers and a 1.9 A18-49 rating for episode three (-31% among viewers and -27% among adults 18-49).
