Since a DVD-quality workprint of X-Men Origins: Wolverine leaked onto the internet last month, 20th Century Fox has maintained that the final version would be different. Turns out they weren’t being completely honest.
Ain’t It Cool News is reporting that the final cut of the film is nearly identical to the workprint, with the exception of finished visual effects and other technical tweaks:
“It’s obvious that Fox is trying their darndest to keep this news from getting out, because it will eliminate most of the motivation for people who have seen the workprint to pay for a ticket.”
Well that’s disappointing.
Perhaps that’s why Fox has decided to attach multiple secret endings to the film. Yes, that’s right. Director Gavin Hood told reporters at a recent screening of the film that the studio has hidden secret endings on different prints and theaters. It’s unclear just how many endings there will be, but FirstShowing.net reports, without spoiling, that the version they saw ran about 30 seconds and featured the character Deadpool.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine hits theaters on May 1, 2009.
