Instead of directing a fourth installment in the wildly popular Pirates of the Caribbean franchise (which has grossed $2.6 billion worldwide), Gore Verbinski has instead opted to focus on other projects, including Bioshock, Universal Pictures’ adaptation of the bestselling video game. Penned by John Logan, Bioshock is expected to begin production in 2010:
“I had a fantastic time bringing ‘Pirates’ to life, and I am eternally grateful to Jerry, Johnny and the rest of the creative and production team,” Verbinski said. “I’m looking forward to all of us crossing paths again in the future.”
