MSNBC has announced that they will begin telecasting in 1080i High Definition beginning on June 29, 2009. The announcement came via MSNBC president Phil Griffin last Thursday at the Cable Show in Washington, D.C.:
“MSNBC is in the best competitive place its ever been, beating CNN in prime time last month and continuing incredible growth,” Griffin said. Adding, “Broadcasting in HD is only going to help us build on the great success we’ve had so far this year, and will give viewers what they’ve been asking for, a full high definition broadcast of MSNBC.”
That ratings success Griffin noted was in regards to the release of the first quarter ’09 Nielsen data, which showed that MSNBC beat CNN for the first time ever in March in both total viewers and adults 25-54. More noteworthy, the network was #1 overall among younger viewers (adults 18-34) in both prime time and morning ratings for the month of March.
