princecaspiansmall-506When Walt Disney decided not to exercise its option to co-produce and co-finance the third film in the Chronicles of Narnia franchise, most assumed that a likely new partner for Walden Media would be Fox, who already distributes Walden properties under the Fox Walden banner.  And that’s exactly what has happened.

Variety is reporting that Fox and Walden will split production and P&A costs for The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader, which it reports is projected to cost $140 million, a good deal below the $215 million budget of last year’s ‘Prince Caspian’ and 2005’s The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe ($180 million).

The hope is to shoot the film at the end of summer and release it holiday 2010.

Artist Daniel LuVisi has posted tryout concept art (pictured above, click to enlarge) for the upcoming adaptation of Max Brooks’ World War Z.  From the artist:

This is the image I did, to get on the film World War Z with Marc Forster, director of Quantum of Solace. Can’t say whats going on or what the outcome is right now, but it’s not in the negative zone : )

This was one of the most difficult images I’ve ever done. Incredibly challenging to the point where I wanted to quit. But through thick and thin I forced myself to complete it.

thegreenhornetlogo-121908Here’s a bit more news on Seth Rogen’s The Green Hornet.  The LA Times Hero Complex blog reports that Adam Sandler has a “brief but key role in the movie as a certain surprise superhero…I heard which one, too, but I don’t want to ruin it.”

Sandler and Rogen are working together on another project, an untitled comedy from Judd Apatow, so the possibility of Sandler making a cameo appearance in The Green Hornet isn’t all that far-fetched.

The Green Hornet is scheduled for a June 25, 2010 release.

laracrofttombraider-012809Warner Bros. and producer Dan Lin are in early development on a reboot of Tomb Raider, based on the popular video game series.

The new project will reimagine the origins of the character, her love interest and the main villain.  An actress to take on the role, played by Angelina Jolie in the prior two films, will likely come after a write and director are attached.

Released in 2001, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider grossed $274.7 million worldwide, while the sequel grossed a less impressive $156.5 million in 2003.
