abclogo-513ABC today announced greenlights for three drama pilots from ABC Studios, including one from Grey’s Anatomy creator/executive producer Shonda Rhimes. titled Inside the Box.

According to THR, Inside the Box, written by Richard E. Robbins, is set in a  Washington network news bureau and centers on an ambitious female news producer and her colleagues.  The project has been in development since 2006, (ABC picked it up to pilot), but was ultimately shelved because Rhimes got busy with Grey’s Anatomy and its spinoff Private Practice.

I, Claudia, is a contemporary drama from writer John Scott Shepherd and centers on Claudia McIntire, a young prosecuting attorney who doesn’t know that one day she is going to be a serious contender for the presidency of the U.S.

The untitled Brothers & Detectives adaptation, written and exec produced by Daniel Cerone, is about a low-level detective who, after the death of his estranged father, discovers he has a brilliant 11-year-old brother who is adept at helping him solve crimes.

Fox, meanwhile, has greenlit a drama titled Masterwork from Prison Break creator Paul Scheuring.  The series is described by THR as a globe-trotting adventure like National Treasure and The Da Vinci Code about  a race against time to recover the world’s most sought-after artifacts.

thegreenhornetlogo-121908Last week during Sundance, news spread that Seth Rogen’s Green Hornet project was in trouble, and would soon be getting the axe by Sony.  But according to Rogen himself, who has sent in a email to CHUD, the project is still very much a go:

“[The studio heads] have every intention on making it, and assuming we’re able to hire a new director in the upcoming weeks, which seems like a distinct possibilty [sic], it should still hit the release date.”

That release date, by the way, is June 25, 2010.

There’s also some news in regards to departed director Stephen Chow.  AICN is insisting that Chow’s departure from the project was directorial only and that he will STILL play the role of sidekick Kato.

theateam-0127092oth Century Fox has has tapped Joe Carnahan to direct and Ridley Scott to produce, with Tony scott executive producing, a summer 2010 feature film release of The A-Team.

Carnahan takes over for John Singleton, who exited the project last year (see related story here).

Carnahan will team with Brian Bloom to re-work a script by Skip Woods (G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra).  Production is expected to begin by this June, with an expected June 10, 2010 release, according to Variety.

“Tony and I feel that marrying this Scott Free project with Joe’s sensibility will result in a fast-paced, exciting franchise, one we hope will be around for years to come,” Scott said.

Carnahan and the Scott brothers say they will use the original premise of the series as the template for an action film. In the original, four Vietnam vets convicted of armed robbery escape from military prison and became do-gooder mercenaries.

The Middle East will replace Vietnam as the place the four did their tour of duty, but Carnahan said the origin story is the jumping-off point.

“You can … make a film that reflects on the real world without losing the great sense of fun and the velocity of action in a classic summer popcorn film,” Carnahan said.
