CBS’s returning dramas CSI (the nights most-watched show) and Without A Trace and Survivor combined to easily push CBS to the top spot on Thursday night, defeating its closest competition by more than 6 million viewers.

Fox fared well with its two-hour edition of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?, which kept the network ahead of returning comedy My Name Is Earl on NBC (third place).

Speaking of ‘Earl’, the comedy returned with an hour long episode and posted a performance that was mostly even from its last newly aired episode (which was this past January).  Audience loss was minimized among total viewers (-250,000/-3%), though there could be some cause for concern among adults 18-49, where the show was off by 9%.

Elsewhere on the evening, back-to-back episodes of the ABC comedy Miss Guided–which included the season one finale–failed to improve upon prior performances and Eli Stone continues to falter without the help of an original installment of Lost.

The CW aired repeats of Smallville and Supernatural. (more…)

Television (who produces the show) and they are making a play for the Julia Louis-Drefus comedy The New Adventures of Old Christine, should CBS decide not to renew it.
