Spielberg Will Direct First Film in “TinTin” Trilogy

An announcement was made last year (article here) that Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg would be directing a trilogy based off the popular comic book series The Adventures of TinTin, but a specific lineup was never announced.

Now, Andy Serkis, who will play Captain Haddock in the series, revealed in an interview with IndieLondon that Spielberg will be directing the first film.

From the interview:

Q. Are you going to be reuniting with Peter Jackson again for Tintin?

Andy Serkis: In fact tomorrow I’m flying out to start on Tintin. Steven Spielberg is directing the first one, and then Peter Jackson is doing the second. The bulk of the shoot starts in September but things got a little bit moved around after the writers’ strike.

This presumably means that Jackson will direct the second film in the series, but that’s still not certain.

The first film in the series is scheduled to hit theaters in 2009.
