Freddy Krueger is returning to theaters. Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form have been set up by New Line to relaunch the movie series.
Plans are for the trio to create a new franchise based on Wes Craven’s 1984 film A Nightmare on Elm Street.
The deal comes just as the trio are preparing for an early May start for Friday the 13th, another New Line relaunch of a horror franchise. That film will be directed by Marcus Nispel from a script penned by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (Freddy vs. Jason).
A writer won’t be named by the studio until the writers strike is resolved.
