“The Price is Right” Headed to Primetime

CBS today announced that the long-running game show The Price is Right, now hosted by Drew Carey, will air a six specials in primetime on Friday nights starting in February.

The broadcasts begin on Friday, February 22 (8:00-9:00 p.m.).  To make room for the specials, CBS will move Ghost Whisperer up one hour to 9:00 p.m., and Moonlight will be on a brief hiatus.

“THE PRICE IS RIGHT” RETURNS TO PRIME TIME WITH SIX NEW SPECIALS HOSTED BY DREW CAREY, AIRING FRIDAYS BEGINNING FEB. 22

THE PRICE IS RIGHT, hosted by Drew Carey, returns to prime time with six new specials to be broadcast on Fridays, beginning Feb. 22 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT), on the CBS Television Network. These will be the first primetime specials to be broadcast since Carey took hosting reins from former host Bob Barker.

During THE PRICE IS RIGHT six-week primetime run, GHOST WHISPERER will move to 9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT. MOONLIGHT will return to the schedule later this season.

THE PRICE IS RIGHT, with host Drew Carey, is the longest-running game show in television history. In 2007, it won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Game/Audience Participation Show. Produced by FremantleMedia North America, THE PRICE IS RIGHT is broadcast weekdays (11:00 AM-12:00 Noon, ET; 10:00-11:00 AM, PT) on the CBS Television Network.

  • Good point Bailey. They may adjust their marketing a bit from the A18-49 audience towards the A25-54 crowd, a demo in which CBS goes after more so than the other networks.

    However, CBS did a good job advertising the Price is Right special back in May (the last episode of the show with Barker as host) to all audiences. It drew a solid 3.5/11 rating/share among adults 18-49 and nearly 14 million total viewers (an 8.9/15 household rating/share and 13.99 million viewers).

    CBS is no doubt hoping for a repeat of those numbers for this series of specials.
