NBC continues to rate incredibly well during the new year, as the network was once again the most-watched for the evening among households, viewers and adults 18-49, with strong numbers from week two of the new season of The Biggest Loser and season-high numbers for the nights most-watched program Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
Elsewhere on the evening, CBS’s presentation of The 38th Annual People’s Choice Awards was very negatively affected by the changed format (due to the WGA writers strike) as the program posted series low numbers (off a staggering 56% among viewers and 54% among adults 18-49 from the year prior).
The CW got some good news, as the season five premiere of One Tree Hill got off to a great start (mostly on par with last season’s premiere), giving the network a much needed ratings boost.
ABC meanwhile struggled, dropping to a very weak last place for the evening among adults 18-49, as the network failed to successfully return Carpoolers and According to Jim posted another poor showing after last week’s season premiere. The networks coverage of The 2008 New Hampshire Primary also failed to garner many eyeballs to the network.
