NFL Makes Changes to Draft Rules October 23, 2007 7:30 pm

The NFL has made a few changes to the Draft, cutting the time between picks in the first and second rounds from 15 minutes to 10 minutes.
The league has also changed the time of the telecast, moving the start up 3 hours from noon ET to 3:00 p.m. and limiting the first day to two rounds of the draft instead of three.
“We believe this will make for a more streamlined and efficient draft,” commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement issued during the league owners meetings.
The main reason for the rule change was because of how long round one of the 2007 draft took to complete (6 hours and 8 minutes).
Time between picks in rounds three through seven will remain the same at five minutes. Though that session will begin at 10:00 a.m. instead of 11:00 a.m.
Both draft days will be televised by ESPN and the NFL Network.
