Remake of Thomas’s “Cupid” Picked Up by ABC

ABC is going forward with a remake of the short-lived ABC drama series Cupid from creator Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars).

The 1998-1999 series, which lasted only 15 episodes, starred Jeremy Piven as a man who thougt he was sent to Earth by Zeus to help out the romantically challenged.

It’s the first of two projects Thomas has in the works as part of his new one-year development deal with ABC Studios.

“For the last couple years, I’ve been talking to ABC about how to do an anthological romantic comedy a la ‘Cupid’ or ‘Love Boat,’ ” Thomas said. “We kept beating around ideas and kept coming back to ‘Cupid’ as the best of the group. So they said to me, ‘Why not go back and do ‘Cupid’ again?”

Thomas will be writing a completely new pilot and some of the changes include a new setting (Los Angeles instead of Chicago).
