CSI leads CBS to a household, viewer and adults 18-49 victory on the evening, as the long-running drama series manages to beat ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy in overall audience. Grey’s, which suffered through a yearly decline, was still able to win the night among adults 18-49.

Over at NBC, The Office had a successful transition to its new 9:00 p.m. timeslot, opening the new season with a series high rating among adults 18-49, but E.R. was off by a significant amount from last year’s premiere and My Name Is Earl performed on par with its year-ago opener.

ABC’s two other programs on the night, the season two premiere of Ugly Betty and the series premiere of Big Shots, performed well, but Ugly Betty was off a good deal from its series premiere last year, and Big Shots opened in a slightly weaker position than last year’s timeslot occupant (the now canceled Six Degrees) did, losing out to CBS’s relocated Without A Trace, which won the timeslot.

The CW’s Smallville got a good showing for its seventh season premiere, ahead of last year, while FOX’s ‘5th Grader’/’Lyrics’ duo declines in the face of increased competition.
