Broadcast TV Ratings for Wednesday, August 22, 2007

CBS carried the night by a fairly wide margin among households and viewers, but had to settle for second place among adults 18-49, with NBC taking first in that demo. Terrible series debut for Fox’s Anchorwoman pushes the network into a last place tie on the night among adults 18-49.

CBS finished in first place on the evening with a 5.6/10 household rating/share and 8.27 million viewers, but was just slightly back in second among adults 18-49 with a 2.2/7 rating/share.

  • Last Week:
    • Households - 5.4/10 [#t1]
    • Viewers - 8.01M [#2]
    • Adults 18-49 – 2.0/6 [#3]
  • 8:00 p.m.: Power of 10 (5.8/10 HH rating/share, 8.68M viewers, 2.2/7 A18-49 rating/share) rebounded a good deal after the series slid just a little last week after its series premiere. The show was up a solid 950,000 or 12% among viewers, 12% among households and 10% among adults 18-49. The performance of this series (with Drew Carey at the helm) bodes well for the future of The Price is Right.
    • Week-to-week numbers (fast nationals):
      • Households – 5.2/10 to 5.8/10
      • Viewers – 7.73M to 8.68M
      • Adults 18-49 – 2.0/7 to 2.2/7
  • As usual, the rest of the evening held steady, leading the network to a first place finish on the night among households and viewers.
  • 9:00 p.m.: A repeat of Criminal Minds (5.5/9 HH rating/share, 8.16M viewers, 2.1/6 A18-49 rating/share). 5.5/9 8.15 2.0/6
  • 10:00 p.m.: And lastly, a repeat of CSI: NY (5.4/9 HH rating/share, 7.98M viewers, 2.4/7 A18-49 rating/share). 5.7/10 8.13 2.1/6

NBC followed in second place on the evening with a 4.3/7 household rating/share and 6.61 million viewers, but managed a first place finish among adults 18-49 with a 2.4/7 rating/share.

  • Last Week:
    • Households – 3.9/7 [#3]
    • Viewers – 6.08M [#3]
    • A18-49 – 2.2/7 [#2]
  • 8:00 p.m: A repeat of Most Outrageous Moments (4.1/7 HH rating/share, 6.38M viewers, 2.1/7 A18-49 rating/share).
  • 9:00 p.m.: Last Comic Standing (4.5/7 HH rating/share, 7.28M viewers, 3.1/9 A18-49 rating/share) improved by a great deal from the week prior, posting impressive gains of 1.39 million or 24% among viewers, 25% among households and 24% among adults 18-49.
    • Week-to-week numbers (fast nationals):
      • Households – 3.6/6 to 4.5/7
      • Viewers – 5.89M to 7.28M
      • Adults 18-49 – 2.5/7 to 3.1/9
  • 10:00 p.m.: Dateline (4.3/7 HH rating, 6.18M viewers, 2.1/6 A18-49 rating) ended the night mostly on par with lats week’s performance.
    • Week-to-week numbers (fast nationals):
      • Households – 4.4/8 to 4.3/7
      • Viewers – 6.57M to 6.18M
      • Adults 18-49 – 2.2/7 to 2.1/6

ABC finished in third place for the evening with a 2.6/4 household rating/share, 3.81 million viewers and a 1.5/4 rating/share among adults 18-49.

  • Last Week:
    • Households – 2.8/5 [#4]
    • Viewers – 4.02M [#4]
    • A18-49 – 1.5/5 [#4]
  • 8:00 & 8:30 p.m.: Back-to-back repeats of According to Jim (3.1/6 HH rating/share, 4.69M viewers, 1.7/5 A18-49 rating/share).
  • 9:00 p.m.: NASCAR in Primetime (2.4/3 HH rating/share, 3.55M viewers, 1.4/4 A18-49 rating/share) improved by quite a bit, (+1.62 million or +84% among viewers, +60% among households and +100% among adults 18-49). Amazing what a timeslot one hour earlier in the night does to ratings huh?
    • Last week’s numbers (fast nationals – 10:00 p.m.):
      • Households – 1.5/3 to 2.4/3
      • Viewers – 1.93M to 3.55M
      • Adults 18-49 – 0.7/2 to 1.4/4
  • 10:00 p.m.: Primetime: The Outsiders (2.3/4 HH rating/share, 3.19M viewers, 1.2/4 A18-49 rating/share) was on the losing side of the deal with the switch, as the program fell off by 1.74 million or 35% among viewers, 32% among households and 33% among adults 18-49.
    • Last week’s numbers (fast nationals – 9:00 p.m.):
      • Households – 3.4/6 to 2.3/4
      • Viewers – 4.93M to 3.19M
      • Adults 18-49 – 1.8/5 to 1.2/4

Fox followed in fourth place on the evening with a 2.3/4 household rating/share and 3.26 million viewers, but had to share fourth place with The CW among adults 18-49 with a 1.0/3 rating/share.

  • Last Week:
    • Households – 5.4/10 [#t1]
    • Viewers – 8.50M [#1]
    • Adults 18-49 – 3.2/10 [#1]
  • 8:00 p.m.: The series premiere of Anchorwoman (2.0/4 HH rating/share, 2.72M viewers, 1.0/3 A18-49 rating/share), which was picked up by the network for five episodes, flopped. The one-hour episode (3 episodes remain to be aired) put Fox in a last place tie on the night among adults 18-49, causing the night to be way off from the week prior, when the network was first on the night.
    • Last week’s numbers (fast nationals – 8:00-10:00 p.m. – So You Think You Can Dance?):
      • Households – 5.4/10
      • Viewers – 8.50M
      • Adults 18-49 – 3.2/10
  • 9:00 p.m.: A repeat of Bones (2.6/4 HH rating/share, 3.80M viewers, 1.1/3 A18-49 rating/share).

The CW finished in fifth place for the evening with a 1.5/3 household rating/share and 2.15 million viewers, but managed a tie for fourth place among adults 18-49 with a 1.0/3 rating/share.

  • Last Week:
    • Households – 1.1/2 [#5]
    • Viewers – 1.59M [#5]
    • Adults 18-49 – 0.6/2 [#5]
  • 8:00-10:00 p.m.: Back-to-back repeats of America’s Next Top Model (1.5/3 HH rating/share, 2.15M viewers, 1.0/3 A18-49 rating/share) seemed to have benefited not having to compete against the Fox reality series So You Think You Can Dance?.
