Though HBO was quick to cancel low-rated drama John From Cincinnati (related story here), the premium cable network has decided to go ahead with another season of the similarly low-rated comedy Flight of the Conchords. HBO also announced a renewal for their long-running comedy/drama Entourage.
Flight of the Conchords premiered back on June 17th to the tune of only 1.2 million viewers (0.7/1 HH rating/share, 0.7/2 A18-49 rating/share), and has hovered below the 1 million mark for several of its first season episodes. HBO probably doesn’t see much to lose in terms of renewing the show given it is probably one of the least expensive produced shows that the network runs.
Entourage has not fared as well this season without the benefit of leading out of The Sopranos (it’s off about 1 million viewers, hovering at around 2.5 million viewers, down from the second half of last year when it averaged about 3.5 million viewers), but the series still does good, given its limited exposure and is currently HBO’s highest-rated series.
