Broadcast TV Ratings for Monday, July 30, 2007

CBS gains week-to-week across all three main categories to win the evening among households and viewers, but it wasn’t enough to hold off the Hell’s Kitchen fueled Fox, which won the evening among adults 18-49.

CBS finished in first place for the evening with a 5.0/9 household rating and 7.46 million viewers, but was second among adults 18-49 with a 2.2/7 rating.

  • Last Week:
    • 4.6/8 HH rating [#1]
    • 6.71M viewers [#1]
    • 2.1/6 A18-49 rating [#3]
  • Though there was a slight tweak to the schedule from last week (replacing the repeat of How I Met Your Mother in the 9:30 p.m. slot with a repeat of Rules of Engagement, ratings numbers remained solid, improving just a bit from last week. In terms of the replacement, there was relatively no change, with last week’s episode of ‘Mother’ performing slightly better among adults 18-49, while ‘Rules‘ performed slightly better among total audience.
  • 8:00 & 8:30 p.m.: Repeats of How I Met Your Mother (3.8/7 HH rating, 5.57M viewers, 1.7/6 A18-49 rating) and The New Adventures of Old Christine (3.9/7 HH rating, 5.73M viewers, 1.8/6 A18-49 rating).
  • 9:00 & 9:30 p.m.: Repeats of Two and a Half Men (6.0/10 HH rating, 9.09M viewers, 2.7/8 A18-49 rating) and another Rules of Engagement (4.5/7 HH rating, 6.74M viewers, 2.1/6 A18-49 rating).
  • 10:00 p.m.: And lastly, a repeat of CSI: Miami (6.0/11 HH rating, 8.82M viewers, 2.5/8 A18-49 rating).

FOX followed in second place for the evening with a 4.1/7 household rating and 6.40 million viewers, but managed to duplicate last week’s rating among adults 18-49 with a strong 2.9/9 rating.

  • Last Week:
    • 3.8/6 HH rating [#3]
    • 6.05M viewers [#2]
    • 2.9/9 A18-49 rating [#1]
  • 8:00 p.m.: A repeat of Hell’s Kitchen (2.8/5 HH rating, 4.24M viewers, 1.8/6 A18-49 rating) was of course not strong enough to match last weeks special airing of Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?, but it did perform fairly good considering its repeat nature.
    • Last week’s numbers (Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?):
      • Households – 5.2/9
      • Viewers – 8.58M
      • Adults 18-49 – 2.9/9
  • 9:00 p.m.: A new episode of Hell’s Kitchen (5.4/9 HH rating, 8.57M viewers, 4.0/12 A18-49 rating), which by the way I watched for the very first time last night (this episode and the prior repeat) and got a kick out of it! A very enjoyable show, performed almost identically from the week prior, increasing slightly among households, while losing some of its viewers and adults 18-49 from the week prior. The performance was once again strong enough to make the show the nights most-watched among adults 18-49. It had to settle for second place though among households and viewers to CBS’s CSI: Miami-REPEAT.
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 5.3/9 to 5.4/9
      • Viewers – 8.89M to 8.57M
      • Adults 18-49 – 4.2/12 to 4.0/12

NBC finished in third place for the evening with a 3.5/6 household rating, 5.16 million viewers and a 1.8/6 rating among adults 18-49.

  • 8:00 p.m.: A repeat of Age of Love (2.7/5 HH rating, 3.92M viewers, 1.3/4 A18-49 rating). 2.6/4 3.82 1.5/5
  • 9:00 p.m.: That was followed by a new episode of Age of Love (3.6/6 HH rating, 5.36M viewers, 2.1/6 A18-49 rating) which posted nearly identical numbers from the week prior, leading into…
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 3.7/6 to 3.6/6
      • Viewers – 5.32M to 5.36M
      • Adults 18-49 – 2.2/6 to 2.1/6
  • 10:00 p.m.: Dateline NBC (4.3/8 HH rating, 6.19M viewers, 2.1/6 A18-49 rating), NBC’s top-rated show for the night, which was also basically even from the week prior, with only slight losses across the board.
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 4.6/8 to 4.3/8
      • Viewers – 6.45M to 6.19M
      • Adults 18-49 – 2.2/6 to 2.1/6

ABC followed in fourth place for the evening with a 3.3/6 household rating, 4.72 million viewers and a 1.6/5 rating among adults 18-49.

  • 9:00-11:00 p.m.: 6 Degress of Martina McBride (3.0/5 HH rating, 4.26M viewers, 1.3/4 A18-49 rating) which performed quite poorly, off by 2.2 million or 34%, 30% among households, and 32% among adults 18-49 from last week’s ‘CMA Music Festival’.
    • Last week’s numbers (CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock):
      • Households – 4.3/7
      • Viewers – 6.46M
      • Adults 18-49 – 1.9/6

The CW was left for a fifth place finish with a 1.3/2 household rating, 1.86 million viewers and a 0.7/2 rating among adults 18-49.

  • Last Week:
    • 1.1/2 HH rating [#5]
    • 1.64M viewers [#5]
    • 0.6/2 A18-49 rating [#5]
  • An okay night for repeats of The CW’s comedy lineup, with the 9:00 p.m. block performing considerably better than they did last week, and Everybody Hates Chris once again managing to peak up over the 2 million mark.
  • 8:00 & 8:30 p.m.: Repeats of Everybody Hates Chris (1.4/3 HH rating, 2.09M viewers, 0.7/3 A18-49 rating) and All of Us (1.3/2 HH rating, 1.82M viewers, 0.6/2 A18-49 rating).

Note: Network average numbers from the week prior are based on fast national data. Comparison’s from the week prior (or episode-to-episode, etc.) on specific shows are based on final national data. Ratings for the current day are based on fast nationals. (Expect all three scenarios to be the case at all times, unless otherwise noted). The final rating for first-run episodes that aired this evening will be reported the following week. So for example, the final rating for tonights episode of “Hell’s Kitchen” will be reported in next weeks report for Monday, August 6, 2007.

Also keep in mind that because these are fast national ratings, numbers may increase or decrease when the final nationals are released.
