Broadcast TV Ratings for Friday, July 27, 2007

NBC and CBS finish in a tie for first place among households and viewers, while The CW takes first again among adults 18-49.

NBC finished in a tie for first among households with a 3.1/6 rating and among viewers with 4.56 million, and was tied for third among adults 18-49 with a 1.2/5 rating.

  • Last Week:
    • 3.3/7 HH Rating [#1]
    • 4.84M viewers [#1]
    • 1.4/5 A18-49 rating [#t1]
  • NBC’s usual lineup of repeats was enough to give the network a first place tie (identical) with CBS among households and viewers.
  • 8:00 p.m.: A repeat of 1 vs. 100 (3.2/7 HH rating, 4.62M viewers, 1.2/5 A18-49 rating).
  • 9:00 p.m.: A repeat of Las Vegas (2.8/5 HH rating, 4.04M viewers, 1.1/4 A18-49 rating).
  • 10:00 p.m.: A repeat of Law & Order: Criminal Intent (3.5/7 HH rating, 5.03M viewers, 1.4/5 A18-49 rating).

CBS followed in a tie for first place among households with a 3.1/6 rating and among viewers with 4.56 million, but was way back in fifth place on the evening among adults 18-49 with a 1.1/4 rating.

  • Last Week:
    • 3.1/6 HH rating [#2]
    • 4.48M viewers [#2]
    • 1.1/4 A18-49 [#4]
  • CBS stayed mostly even from the week prior, enough for the network to place first place (tie) on the evening among households and viewers.
  • 8:00 p.m.: A repeat of Ghost Whisperer (3.6/8 HH rating, 5.10M viewers, 1.4/6 A18-49 rating).
  • 9:00 p.m.: That was followed by a repeat of Jericho (2.5/5 HH rating, 3.67M viewers, 1.0/3 A18-49 rating) which seems to have stabilized. These are by no means good numbers, and as you can see from the other programs CBS programmed for the night, its the weak link. It’s unfortunate, but serialized programs simply do not repeat well and its incredibly hard to predict whether these extra airings will have any effect on the shows ratings when it returns with new episodes.
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 3.2/6 to 2.4/4 to 2.4/4 to 2.5/5
      • Viewers – 4.75M to 3.24M to 3.41M to 3.67M
      • Adults 18-49 – 1.1/4 to 0.7/3 to 0.8/3 to 1.0/3
  • 10:00 p.m.: A repeat of Numb3rs (3.4/7 HH rating, 4.91M viewers, 1.2/4 A18-49 rating).

ABC finished in third place for the evening with a 2.7/5 household rating, was fourth among viewers with 3.87 million and a solid second among adults 18-49 with a 1.3/5 rating.

  • Last Week:
    • 2.7/5 HH rating [#3]
    • 3.77M viewers [#4]
    • 1.2/4 A18-49 rating [#3]
  • 8:00 p.m.: Week two of Set for Life (2.6/5 HH rating, 3.06M viewers, 1.0/5 A18-49 rating) proved not to be any different from the week prior, losing audience among households (-7%), viewers (-10% or 400,000 viewers) and adults 18-49 (-17%).
    • Week-to-week numbers (series premiere):
      • Households – 2.8/6 to 2.6/5
      • Viewers – 4.12M to 3.72M
      • Adults 18-49 – 1.2/5 to 1.0/5
  • 9:00 p.m.: A repeat of ABC Family’s new series Greek (1.5/3 HH rating, 2.08M viewers, 0.9/3 A18-49 rating) dipped slightly from the week prior, once again the weak link on the night for the network. And as you can see from the numbers provided below for the first-run episodes of the show on ABC Family, these airings don’t seem to be helping the show gather new viewers.
    • Week-to-week numbers (Re-broadcast of series premiere):
      • Households – 1.6/3 to 1.5/3
      • Viewers – 2.25M to 2.08M
      • Adults 18-49 – 0.9/3 to 0.9/3
    • ABC Family Numbers:
      • Households – 0.8/1 to 0.8/1 to 0.7/1
      • Viewers – 1.06M to 1.16M to 1.01M
      • Adults 18-49 – 0.4/1 to 0.4/1 to 0.3/1
  • 10:00 p.m.: 20/20 (4.0/8 HH rating, 5.82M viewers, 2.0/7 A18-49 rating) showed great growth from its lead-in and bounced up nicely from its weaker than average showing last week (700,000 viewers or 14%, 8% among households and 33% among adults 18-49).
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 3.7/7 to 4.0/8
      • Viewers – 5.12M to 5.82M
      • Adults 18-49 – 1.5/5 to 2.0/7

The CW followed in fourth place for the evening with a 2.5/5 household rating, but was third among viewers with 4.33 million and managed a first place finish among adults 18-49 with a 1.4/5 rating.

  • Last Week:
    • 2.6/5 HH rating [#4]
    • 4.30M viewers [#3]
    • 1.4/5 A18-49 rating [#t1]
  • 8:00-10:00 p.m.: In what has turned into a trend, Friday Night Smackdown! (2.5/5 HH rating, 4.33M viewers, 1.4/5 A18-49 rating) managed to once again lead The CW for the evening among adults 18-49, a rare instance for the network.
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 2.6/5 to 2.5/5
      • Viewers – 4.32M to 4.33M
      • Adults 18-49 – 1.4/5 to 1.4/5

FOX finished in fifth place for the evening with a 2.0/4 household rating and 2.95 million viewers but had a stronger third place tie among adults 18-49 with a 1.2/5 rating.

  • Last Week:
    • 2.1/4 HH rating [#5]
    • 3.20M viewers [#5]
    • 1.0/4 A18-49 rating [#5]
  • 8:00-10:00 p.m.: A repeat of the theatrical film Austin Powers in Goldmember (2.0/4 HH rating, 2.95M viewers, 1.2/5 A18-49 rating) was barely noticed on the night among total audience, but did manage to post okay numbers among adults 18-49 (in relation to the evening at least), above what was posted by the network last week.
    • Last week’s numbers (9:00 p.m. - Standoff season/series finale):
      • Households – 2.0/4
      • Viewers – 2.91M
      • Adults 18-49 – 1.0/4

Note: Network average numbers from the week prior are based on fast national data. Comparison’s from the week prior (or episode-to-episode, etc.) on specific shows are based on final national data. Ratings for the current day are based on fast nationals. (Expect all three scenarios to be the case at all times, unless otherwise noted). The final rating for first-run episodes that aired this evening will be reported the following week. So for example, the final rating for tonights episode of “20/20” will be reported in next weeks report for Friday, August 3, 2007.

Also keep in mind that because these are fast national ratings, numbers may increase or decrease when the final nationals are released.
