ABC has decided to renew its long-running sitcom, giving the series a seventh season in primetime. After leaving it off its 2007/2008 schedule at the upfronts, ABC has ordered 18 episodes of the show, which will now likely be its last.
A premiere data and time slot are still to be determined.
“For six years, it’s been a joy being part of the ABC and Touchstone families and part of each and every family who have been loyal viewers of our show every week,” star and executive producer Jim Belushi says. “This season will top all the rest. I’m thrilled to continue this seventh season with these extended families.”
According to Jim will be the only multi-camera comedy on their schedule next season. It’ll be joined by newcomers (all single-camera): Samantha Who? (originally titled Sam I Am), Cavemen, Carpoolers and Miss/Guided (midseason) as well as returning comedy Notes from the Underbelly.
The series is the longest running scripted series on ABC, and tied with Scrubs as the second longest running comedy in primetime (both are behind The CW’s Girlfriends, which enters its eighth season next year).
