Weekend Box Office — May 11-13, 2007

Spider-Man 3 stays atop the box office charts with a diminished, though still strong, second weekend.

The film was the weekends top draw, which was expected, earning $58.17M from 4,252 theaters. Its total domestic take now stands at a whopping $240.24M through 10 days of release. It dipped 61.5%.

Though the movie is certainly doing great business, it failed to break any records for biggest second weekend (ranks #4 all-time for that record). The record is still held by Shrek 2, which dipped only 33.2% with its $72.17M second weekend.

It also paced behind the first Spider-Man ($71.42M — -37.8%) and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest ($62.35M — -54%).

Three new releases made their way into the top 10. They were paced by Fox Atomic’s 28 Weeks Later in second place with $9.81M from 2,303 theaters, Universal’s Georgia Rule in third place with $6.77M from 2,523 theaters and in fifth place was Lion Gate Films’ Delta Farce with $3.42M from 1,931 theaters.

Just out of the top 10 for new films was MGM’s The Ex in 12th place with $1.39M from 1,009 theaters.
