Broadcast TV Ratings for Friday, May, 11, 2007

Double dose of CBS finales gives the network a first place finish for the evening. The CW manages a noteworthy third among the key A18-49 demographic.

CBS finished in first place for the evening with a 6.5/12 household rating, 9.91 million viewers and a 2.6/9 rating among adults 18-49.

  • Last Week:

  • 8:00 p.m.: The season finale of Ghost Whisperer (6.1/12 HH rating, 9.09M viewers, 2.6/11 A18-49 rating) began CBS’s winning evening on a high note, staying consistent week-to-week, tying for first place on the night among adults 18-49. Having said that though, there are negatives to report. As you can see from the numbers posted below, the show was off by a noteworthy amount from last year’s finale. It was down nearly 2M viewers (1.97M), 15% among households and 19% among adults 18-49.

    • Week-to-week numbers:

      • Adults 18-49 – 2.6/10 to 2.6/11
  • 9:00 p.m.: The season finale of Close to Home (6.9/13 HH rating, 10.45M viewers, 2.6/9 A18-49 rating) posted the evening’s strongest rating across the board. This on-the-bubble series really grew quite nicely from last week’s numbers, posting solid gains of 1.20M viewers, 11% among households and most importantly, 18% among adults 18-49. Also noteworthy, was the consistent performance from last year’s finale. The show actually managed to improve from year-to-year. Rumor is, CBS will order 13 episodes of the series as a mid-season replacement. We’ll know for sure next week.

  • 10:00 p.m.: Numb3rs (6.5/12 HH rating, 9.90M viewers, 2.5/8 A18-49 rating) ended the evening for CBS, staying relatively consistent from its lead-in, first for the hour.

      • Households – 6.3/12 to 6.5/12
      • Viewers – 9.51M to 9.90M
      • Adults 18-49 – 2.3/8 to 2.5/8

NBC followed in second place for the evening with a 5.1/10 household rating, 7.30 million viewers and a 1.8/6 rating among adults 18-49.

    • 8.03M viewers [#2]
    • 2.2/8 A18-49 rating [#2]
  • 8:00 – 10:00 p.m.: Dateline NBC (4.7/9 HH rating, 6.45M viewers, 1.5/6 A18-49 rating) declined a bit from last week’s solid numbers.
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 5.3/10 to 4.7/9
      • Viewers – 7.60M to 6.45M
      • Adults 18-49 – 1.8/7 to 1.5/6
  • 10:00 p.m.: Law & Order (5.7/10 HH rating, 8.22M viewers, 2.3/7 A18-49 rating) also took a slight tumble, most significantly among adults 18-49 where it was down 12%. A decision on a renewal has not yet been made.

      • Viewers – 8.88M to 8.22M
      • Adults 18-49 – 2.6/9 to 2.3/7

ABC finished in third place for the evening with a 3.6/7 household rating and 4.90 million viewers, but had to settle for fourth place among adults 18-49 with a 1.4/5 rating.

  • Last Week:
    • 4.3/8 HH rating [#3]
    • 5.91M viewers [#3]
    • 2.0/7 A18-49 rating [#3]
  • 8:00 p.m.: A repeat of Grey’s Anatomy (3.3/7 HH rating, 4.42M viewers, 1.3/5 A18-49 rating) took a bit of a dive week-to-week.
    • Last weeks numbers (Grey’s Anatomy-REPEAT 8:00-10:00 p.m.):
      • Households – 3.6/7
      • Viewers – 4.89M
      • Adults 18-49 – 1.8/6
  • 9:00 p.m.: A special hour of 20/20 (3.2/6 HH rating, 4.23M viewers, 1.1/4 A18-49 rating) was below average, barely registering among the key A18-49 demo.
  • 10:00 p.m.: Another hour (in its normal time slot) of 20/20 (4.5/8 HH rating, 6.05M viewers, 1.7/6 A18-49 rating) improved greatly upon its lead-in, but was down week-to-week to last week’s much more solid numbers.

      • Households – 5.6/10 to 4.5/8
      • Viewers – 7.96M to 6.05M
      • Adults 18-49 – 2.4/8 to 1.7/6

The CW followed in fourth place for the evening with a 2.6/5 household rating and 4.46 million viewers, but finished in a much stronger position among adults 18-49, earning a solid 1.6/6 rating in the key demo.

  • Last Week:
    • 2.5/5 HH rating [#4]
    • 3.99M viewers [#4]
    • 1.3/5 A18-49 rating [#4]
  • 8:00-10:00 p.m.: WWE Smackdown (2.6/5 HH rating, 4.46M viewers, 1.6/6 A18-49 rating) benefited from a nice bump in the ratings. Growing by nearly 1/2 million viewers (470,000) and an impressive 23% among adults 18-49. The solid ratings meant an above average fourth place finish for the night among households and viewers, and a rare third place finish among adults 18-49.

      • Households – 2.5/5 to 2.6/5
      • Viewers – 3.99M to 4.46M
      • Adults 18-49 – 1.3/5 to 1.6/6

Fox finished in a below average fifth place for the evening with a 2.4/5 household rating , 3.64 million viewers and a 1.3/5 rating among adults 18-49.

    • 1.1/4 A18-49 rating [#5]
  • 8:00 p.m.: The theatrical film Daddy Day Care (2.4/5 HH rating, 3.64M viewers, 1.3/5 A18-49 rating) war hardly noticeable, dragging the network down to an uncommon fifth place for the night across the board.
