Over the past few days, news has been making its way around the internet that if NBC chooses to pass up ordering another season of Law & Order, TNT will move to pick up the series.
Producers of the show have been looking into ways to cut $11 million from the cost of the show over a season (each episode is said to cost NBC $4 million). Its unclear how many episodes would be ordered if the show were the move from network to cable television. Most series on cable air less than the 22-24 original episodes a year (a standard on network television).
TNT has been largely dependent on reruns of Law & Order, which do quite well in the ratings. Their feeling is offering original episodes will further boost the network and continue further fuel the repeat numbers of the networks current L&O repeats.
NBC should be making a decision on the show’s future by their upfront presentation next week.
