United Artists has announced that Tom Cruise will be starring in Bryan Singer’s untitled WWII project.
This marks the second major film under the new United Artists label (the other a Robert Redford directed drama titled Lions for Lambs which also stars Cruise. That film is set to premiere November, 7.), resurrected last fall by Cruise and producing partner Paula Wagner.
Chris McQuarrie wrote the script for the film along with Nathan Alexander, and will produce the film with Singer (reunited for the first time since The Usual Suspects). Alexander will serve as a co-producer.
The deal was finalized last week.
“After reading the script, Tom and I knew immediately that this was a film we had to make,” Wagner said. “As an added bonus, because of Bryan Singer’s involvement and Tom’s admiration for him as a filmmaker as well as the excellence of the script, the project attracted Tom as an actor. I cannot think of a more perfect combination of creative elements for our second production.”
The thriller is based on actual events and depicts an attempted assassination against Adolf Hitler during World War II. Production is scheduled to begin this summer.
