Broadcast TV Ratings for Friday, March, 16, 2007

Round 2 of the NCAA Tournament gives CBS the win, while NBC gets solid results from its two game shows and a Raines repeat to take second place.

CBS finished in first place for the evening with a 5.9/10 household rating and 9.27 million total viewers and was tied for first with NBC among adults 18-49 with a 3.4/10 rating.

  • 8-11:00 p.m.: Night two of the NCAA Basketball Tournament (5.9/10 HH rating, 9.27M viewers, 3.4/10 A18-49 rating) was strong enough to keep CBS in first place for another week across all main categories. It was down only slightly from last week and on par with the performance from last year (check numbers below).

NBC followed in second place for the evening with a 5.5/10 household rating and 8.58 million total viewers but managed to tie for first place among adults 18-49 with a 2.4/7 rating.

  • 8:00 p.m.: The season finale of 1 vs. 100 (5.9/10 HH rating, 9.23M viewers, 2.4/8 A18-49 rating) put NBC in first place for the hour among households and viewers.

      • Households – 5.5/10 to 5.9/10
      • Viewers – 8.70M to 9.23M
      • Adults 18-49 – 2.3/8 to 2.4/8
  • 9:00 p.m.: The season premiere of Identity (5.8/10 HH rating, 9.26M viewers, 2.8/8 A18-49 rating) was able to hold on to its lead-in’s audience among households and viewers and managed to tick up a strong 17% among adults 18-49. I’ve included a few comparisons below to see how this compares with previous episodes of this new series. Suffice it to say, the performance was good. The program moves to 8:00 p.m. next week.

  • 10:00 p.m.: An encore of Thursday nights series premiere of Raines (5.0/9 HH rating, 7.27M viewers, 2.1/7 A18-49 rating) ended the evening for NBC in third place for the hour. New episodes of Raines begin in this time slot in two weeks time.

ABC finished in third place for the evening with a 4.6/8 household rating, 6.67 million total viewers and a 2.2/7 rating among adults 18-49.

    • 1.8/6 A18-49 rating [#3]
  • 8:00 p.m.: An encore of Thursday night’s Grey’s Anatomy (4.0/7 HH rating, 5.93M viewers, 2.0/6 A18-49 rating) managed to show register some gains week-to-week, posting the most growth among adults 18-49 (+43%).
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 3.4/6 to 4.0/7
      • Viewers – 4.69M to 5.93M
      • Adults 18-49 – 1.4/5 to 2.0/6
  • 9:00 p.m.: A repeat of Wife Swap (3.9/7 HH rating, 5.63M viewers, 2.1/6 A18-49 rating) remained even from its lead-in, ticking up slightly among adults 18-49 for an increase week-to-week.
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 3.3/6 to 3.9/7
      • Viewers – 4.82M to 5.63M
      • Adults 18-49 – 1.8/6 to 2.1/6
  • 10:00 p.m.: 20/20 (5.8/10 HH rating, 8.45M viewers, 2.6/8 A18-49 rating) ended the evening for ABC in second place for the hour, managing to put up solid competition against CBS’s College Basketball coverage. It was also up nicely week-to-week.
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 5.0/9 to 5.8/10
      • Viewers – 7.19M to 8.45M
      • Adults 18-49 – 2.3/7 to 2.6/8

Fox finished in fifth place for the evening with a 4.2/7 household rating and 6.22 million total viewers and tied for fourth among adults 18-49 with a 2.0/6 rating.

    • 3.1/5 HH rating [#4]
    • 4.65M viewers [#4]
    • 1.6/5 A18-49 rating [#4]
  • 8:00 p.m.: A repeat of House (4.4/8 HH rating, 6.62M viewers, 2.2/7 A18-49 rating) continues give the network above average numbers for the time period, increasing its total overall audience from the week prior.
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 3.6/6 to 4.4/8
      • Viewers – 5.55M to 6.62M
      • Adults 18-49 – 1.9/6 to 2.2/7
  • 9:00 p.m.: The first new episode in the time period for Wedding Bells (4.0/7 HH rating, 5.81M viewers, 1.9/5 A18-49 rating) failed to do much for Fox. I’m not sure what their expectations were for the series in this time slot, but it was definitely well off from its series launch out of ‘Idol‘ last week.

      • Households – 7.8/12 to 4.0/7
      • Viewers – 12.34M to 5.81M
      • Adults 18-49 – 5.2/13 to 1.9/5
    • Week-to-week numbers (vs. a repeat of Wedding Bells):
      • Households – 2.6/4 to 4.0/7
      • Viewers – 3.75M to 5.81M
      • Adults 18-49 – 1.3/4 to 1.9/5

The CW finished in fifth place with a 2.8/5 household rating, 4.72 million total viewers and a 1.5/5 rating among adults 18-49.

  • 8-10:00 p.m.: WWE Smackdown (2.8/5 HH rating, 4.72M viewers, 1.5/5 A18-49 rating) gave another respectable and consistent performance for The CW, registering slight gains across the board.

      • Viewers – 4.58M to 4.72M
      • Adults 18-49 – 1.4/5 to 1.5/5
