Broadcast TV Ratings for Tuesday, March 13, 2007

Fox carries the evening easily with its dominant American Idol two-hour program.  The second original airing of Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll, drops a troubling 35%.

Fox finished in first place for the evening with a 17.0/27 household rating, 29.39 million total viewers and a 11.5/31 rating among adults 18-49.

  • 8-10:00 p.m.: A two-hour edition of American Idol (17.0/27 HH rating, 29.39M viewers, 11.5/31 A18-49) gave Fox an easy win for the night, improving week-to-week among all categories. The show peaked in the last hour, averaging an 18.0/28 HH rating, 31.17M viewers and a 12.4/31 A18-49 rating.
    • Week-to-week numbers (vs. 8-9:00 p.m.):
      • Households – 16.0/24 to 17.0/27
      • Viewers – 27.80M to 29.39M
      • Adults 18-49 – 10.9/29 to 11.5/31

CBS followed in second place for the evening with a 6.2/10 household rating, 9.47 million viewers and a 2.5/7 rating among adults 18-49.

    • 9.57M viewers [#2]
    • 2.2/6 A18-49 rating [#3]
  • Repeats for the entire evening fared strongly against Fox, allowing for the network to place second on the night.
  • 8:00 p.m.: A repeat of NCIS (7.5/12 HH rating, 11.49M viewers, 2.5/7 A18-49 rating).
  • 9:00 p.m.: A repeat of The Unit (5.0/8 HH rating, 7.70M viewers, 2.0/5 A18-49 rating).
  • 10:00 p.m.: A repeat of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (6.0/10 HH rating, 9.22M viewers, 2.9/8 A18-49 rating).
    • Week-to-week time slot numbers (vs. 48 Hours Mystery)
      • Households – 5.8/10 to 6.0/10
      • Viewers – 8.56M to 9.22M
      • Adults 18-49 – 2.4/7 to 2.9/8

NBC finished in third place for the evening with a 4.8/8 household rating, 8.67 million viewers and a 2.1/6 rating among adults 18-49.

    • 5.3/8 HH rating [#3]

    • 2.3/6 A18-49 rating [#2]
  • 8:00 p.m.: Dateline (3.9/6 HH rating, 5.63M viewers, 2.0/6 A18-49 rating) remains a weak performer for NBC, dipping week-to-week nearly 1M viewers (980,000), 15% among households and 9% among adults 18-49.
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 4.6/7 to 3.9/6
      • Viewers – 6.61M to 5.63M
      • Adults 18-49 – 2.2/6 to 2.0/6
  • That led into repeats of the two of the Law & Order’s which did okay.
  • 9:00 p.m.: A repeat of Law & Order: Criminal Intent (4.7/8 HH rating, 6.81M viewers, 1.7/4 A18-49 rating).
  • 10:00 p.m.: A repeat of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (5.7/10 HH rating, 8.17M viewers, 2.5/7 A18-49 rating).

ABC followed in fourth place for the evening with a 3.7/6 household rating, 5.53 million viewers and a 1.6/4 rating among adults 18-49.

    • 1.8/5 A18-49 rating [#5]
  • 8:00 p.m.: A repeat of America’s Funniest Home Videos (3.4/6 HH rating, 5.30M viewers, 1.5/4 A18-49 rating) began the evening for ABC, who is still struggling to fill their lineup with original programming.
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 3.7/6 to 3.4/6
      • Viewers – 5.80M to 5.30M
      • Adults 18-49 – 1.7/4 to 1.5/4
  • 9:00 p.m.: An edition of Primetime: The Outsiders (3.9/7 HH rating, 5.57M viewers, 1.8/5 A18-49 rating) managed to tick up some from its lead-in, but was still down week-to-week.
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 4.6/7 to 3.9/7
      • Viewers – 6.75M to 5.57M
      • A18-49 – 2.2/6 to 1.8/5
  • 10:00 p.m.: A repeat of Boston Legal (3.9/7 HH rating, 5.72M viewers, 1.4/4 A18-49 rating) ended the evening for ABC.

The CW finished in fifth place for the evening with a 1.5/2 household rating, 2.29 million viewers and a 0.9/3 rating among adults 18-49

  • Last Week:
    • 2.8/4 HH rating [#5]
    • 4.17M viewers [#5]
    • 1.9/5 A18-49 rating [#4]
  • 8:00 PM: A repeat of Gilmore Girls (1.4/2 HH rating, 2.07M viewers, 0.8/2 A18-49 rating) led off the night for The CW with a weaker than average performance for a repeat.
  • 9:00 PM: The second week of Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll (1.7/3 HH rating, 2.52M viewers, 1.1/3 A18-49 rating) fared very badly. A repeat lead-in, and having to go up against ‘Idol really hurt the second week of this short-term reality series. It was down a steep 1.38M viewers, 35% among households and 35% among adults 18-49.       • Viewers – 3.90M to 2.52M
