Fox takes another evening thanks to its strong duo of American Idol and House.

Fox finished in first place for the evening with a 16.1/24 household rating, 28.47 million total viewers and a 12.0/28 rating among adults 18-49.

  • Last Week:
    • 16.4/24 HH rating [#1]
    • 29.01M viewers [#1]
    • 11.8/28 A18-49 rating [#1]
  • 8:00 p.m.: American Idol (17.4/25 HH rating, 30.97M viewers, 12.9/31 A18-49), though it managed to shed about 2.1M viewers, ‘Idol’ still dominated the hour, defeating its nearest competitor by more than 15M viewers.
    • Week-to-week numbers :
      • Households – 18.4/27 to 17.4/25
      • Viewers – 33.07M to 30.97M
      • A18-49 – 13.4/33 to 12.9/31
  • 9:00 p.m.: House (14.9/22 HH rating, 25.97M viewers, 11.1/26 A18-49) continues to take advantage of its AI lead-in as it improved over last week’s numbers by 1M viewers and nearly matched the performance from two weeks back (the first time it led out of AI this season) among adults 18-49 (had an 11.2 rating in the demo for that airing).

      • Viewers – 24.95M to 25.97M
      • A18-49 – 10.2/24 to 11.1/26

CBS followed in second place for the evening with a 7.7/12 household rating and 12.16 million total viewers, but was third among adults 18-49 with a 3.3/8 rating.

    • 3.6/9 A18-49 rating [#2]
  • 8:00 p.m.: NCIS (9.8/14 HH rating, 15.67M viewers, 3.7/9 A18-49 rating) held steady from the week prior against the ratings juggernaut that is AI.
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 10.3/15 to 9.8/14
      • Viewers – 16.17M to 15.67M
      • Adults 18-49 – 3.9/9 to 3.7/9
  • 9:00 p.m.: The Unit (7.6/11 HH rating, 12.23M viewers, 3.6/8 A18-49 rating) was also pretty much flat from the week prior.
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 7.8/11 to 7.6/11
      • Viewers – 12.34M to 12.23M
      • Adults 18-49 – 3.6/9 to 3.6/8
  • 10:00 p.m.: CBS went with a rerun of Without a Trace (5.8/9 HH rating, 8.58M viewers, 2.6/6 A18-49 rating) and though not as strong as a new episode of The Unit last week still provided a solid outing given it was a repeat.

      • Households – 6.7/11 to 5.8/9
      • Viewers – 10.43M to 8.58M
      • A18-49 – 3.3/8 to 2.6/6

NBC finished in third place for the evening with a 6.3/10 household rating and 9.31 million total viewers, but managed to squeek by CBS for second among adults 18-49 with a 3.4/8 rating.

    • 3.2/8 A18-49 rating [#3]
  • 8:00 p.m.: Dateline (4.5/7 HH rating, 6.41M viewers, 2.4/6 A18-49 rating) posted slight gains from the week prior, but is still the networks sore spot for the evening.

      • Households – 4.0/6 to 4.5/7
      • Viewers – 5.75M to 6.41M
      • Adults 18-49 – 2.1/5 to 2.4/6
  • 9:00 p.m.: Law & Order: Criminal Intent (5.8/9 HH rating, 8.58M viewers, 2.9/7 A18-49 rating) held steady from the week prior, but it’s way down from a more impressive performance before its hiatus a few weeks back, where it drew nearly 12M viewers and a 3.4 among adults 18-49.
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 5.9/9 to 5.8/9
      • Viewers – 8.85M to 8.58M
      • Adults 18-49 – 2.7/6 to 2.9/7
  • 10:00 p.m.: Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (8.7/14 HH rating, 12.95M viewers, 4.9/13 A18-49 rating) proved strong enough to move past Boston Legal to take another, now common, first place finish for the hour.

      • Households – 8.9/15 to 8.7/14
      • Viewers – 13.39M to 12.95M
      • Adults 18-49 – 4.8/12 to 4.9/13

ABC followed in fourth place for the evening with a 5.4/8 household rating, 8.20 million total viewers and a 2.7/7 rating among adults 18-49.

  • Last Week:
    • 5.2/8 HH rating [#4]
    • 7.67M viewers [#4]
    • 2.3/6 A18-49 rating [#4]
  • 8:00 p.m.: A repeat of America’s Funniest Home Videos (3.9/6 HH rating, 6.34M viewers, 2.1/5 A18-49 rating) performed decently for ABC, considering it was a repeat. It also managed to improve nicely upon its A18-49 rating from last week (+40%).
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 3.6/5 to 3.9/6
      • Viewers – 5.62M to 6.34M
      • Adults 18-49 – 1.5/4 to 2.1/5
  • 9:00 p.m.: An edition of Primetime: The Outsiders (5.8/9 HH rating, 8.73M viewers, 3.4/8 A18-49 rating) grew more than 1M viewers from last week and posted a very solid 3.4 rating among adults 18-49 (+31%).
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 5.2/8 to 5.8/9
      • Viewers – 7.55M to 8.73M
      • A18-49 – 2.6/6 to 3.4/8
  • 10:00 p.m.: Boston Legal (6.5/10 HH rating, 9.53M viewers, 2.8/7 A18-49 rating) ended the evening for ABC in second place for the hour among all main categories, basically flat from the week prior.
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 6.7/11 to 9.53M
      • Viewers – 9.83M to 9.53M
      • A18-49 – 2.9/8 to 2.8/7

The CW was left for a fifth place finish with a 2.2/3 household rating, 3.47 million total viewers and a fifth place 1.5/4 rating among adults 18-49.

  • Last Week:
    • 2.3/3 HH rating [#5]
    • 3.55M viewers [#5]
    • 1.6/4 A18-49 rating [#5]
  • 8:00 PM: Gilmore Girls (2.9/4 HH rating, 4.31M viewers, 2.0/5 A18-49 rating) experienced a slight dip, but was strong among adults 18-49, staying flat from the week prior in that key demo.
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 3.2/5 to 2.9/4
      • Viewers – 4.62M to 4.31M
      • A18-49 – 2.0/5 to 2.0/5
  • 9:00 PM: It was business as usual at 9PM, as Veronica Mars (1.6/2 HH rating, 2.62M viewers, 1.1/3 A18-49 rating) struggled to hold onto its lead-in’s audience. Though the series did manage to climb up ever so slightly from its season lows last week (which were revised downwards when Finals were released to 2.40M).

      • Viewers – 2.47M to 2.62M
      • A18-49 – 1.1/3 to 1.1/3
